The board and staff of Tulsa Tough, Inc. have made the difficult decision to cancel Saint Francis Tulsa Tough in 2020 due to the continued public health and economic impact of COVID-19. Saying that we will miss you is an understatement. But it’s the right thing to do.

We will work hard to make the 15th Saint Francis Tulsa Tough worth the wait. We hope you will join us June 11-13, 2021.  Until then, we hope you will continue to live active lifestyles within guidelines set forth by the healthcare experts.

Why can’t Saint Francis Tulsa Tough take place as scheduled if restrictions are lifted?

As of the date of this announcement, we have not been granted all the permits necessary to stage the Saint Francis Tulsa Tough, and there is no guarantee we will. Some vendors we rely heavily upon are unable to commit the resources necessary to produce the event. Healthcare providers are working beyond their capacity, and there is no guarantee they would be available to provide medical services key to ensuring the safety of our riders. You deserve our best, and given all the uncertainties, we have no real choice but to cancel for 2020.

Why not reschedule for later in 2020?

The second weekend in June has become a time when cyclists from all corners join Tulsans for what Bicycling magazine dubbed a 72-hour block party. Crit racers and fondo riders alike challenge themselves and celebrate their achievements. The crowds are huge. The atmosphere is electric and palpable. The mood is festive. And it culminates with one of the craziest scenes in American bike racing atop Cry Baby Hill.

As we considered the possibility of rescheduling, aside from the all the logistical challenges involved, the need for a healing period became apparent. In a recent poll conducted by the Sharkey Institute at Seton Hall’s Stillman School of Business, 72% of Americans said they would not feel safe attending a sporting event until a vaccine for coronavirus is developed. We need to give the medical community a chance to get this virus under control so we can all feel safe coming together, celebrating and enjoying the camaraderie as we have become accustomed to doing each year.

What about refunds?

All current registrations for crits and fondos will automatically be deferred to the June 11–13, 2021 Saint Francis Tulsa Tough. Because of the generous support of our sponsors, those who prefer a refund may request one. Registrants will receive instructions on deferrals and refunds.
