Tulsa Townie Ride

Tulsa Townie Ride. Fun for the whole family.

Sunday May 31st, 2009 @ 1pm.

The Townie Ride is designed to be a family activity. Regardless of your fitness level or cycling experience, the Townie Ride is for you. So dust off that old bike and ride with your family. Rediscover the joy of cycling.

Fees

The Townie ride entry fee is $20 and includes a participant -tshirt. We have an option for 12 years and under at $10 each but does not include a t-shirt. If you have a child that is under 12 and you want them to get a t-shirt, they will need to choose the full registration. Fees are applicable to all self-propelled individuals. Anyone in a trailer, carrier, or otherwise NOT traveling under their own power gets in free. Tough Kids ride free when riding the Townie to complete their obligation for their free bike. All participants get a free t-shirt, finishers medal, and refreshments at the Zink Park rest stop.

Register

Pre-registration is now closed, event day registration is available at the registration table on Sunday May 31st, from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Distance

It's 8 miles on city streets with a police escort and rolling SAG's (support vehicles in case you get a flat or have a problem). There's a rest stop half way at Zink Park, 32nd and Trenton, with rest rooms, refreshments and assistance. NOTE: All riders must pass the Tough Turn at 31st and Cincinnati by 2:00 p.m. Anyone arriving at the Tough Turn after 2:00 will be directed to finish on the Tiny Townie route.

What's the Tiny Townie?

Anyone who wants a little shorter ride option can turn at the Tough Turn at 31st and Cincinnati and follow the Tiny Townie 5.4 mile route back to the finish. Volunteers will be at this location to give directions.

How will I find my way?

All routes are marked on the street surface or with signs. We expect a good turnout for the Townie, so there should be plenty of riders around you. The Total Townie 8-mile route will be led by a police escort. There will be ride officials on bicycles helping make sure everyone has a safe ride and stays on course.

How fast will we go?

This is not a race. You can go whatever pace suits you. Please remember that you'll be riding with many other people of all abilities and everyone has a right to go their own pace. Don't weave in and out of the other riders or cut people off. If you must pass, announce, "on your left" and go around them on the left. NEVER cross the centerline of the street. ALWAYS be respectful of other riders.

What if I have a flat tire or other bike trouble? What if I can't finish?

We'll have SAG drivers along the route who will help you get your bike going again or will take you and your bike back to the start/finish area. We encourage you to take your time and ride within your own limits. The best way to complete a bicycle ride is to keep moving. Stopping and starting actually makes it harder to finish because you are continually warming up and cooling down. Most times you can keep going when it gets hard if you just slow down and keep a steady pace. If you simply can't go on, move yourself and your bike off the street. A SAG driver will be along shortly. Wave them over and they'll help you. We'll have first aid personnel at the start/finish area who can help with skinned knees and the like.

What if I'm late?

The Townie Ride starts promptly at 1:00 p.m. Please be in the Townie staging area ready to ride no later than 12:45. The Tulsa Tough Races will pause for the Townie Ride Start. Townie Riders will be escorted down the race course under the racer's finish line banner to begin your ride. If you arrive after the Townie start, you MUST RIDE ON THE RIVER TRAIL, OFF OF RIVERSIDE DRIVE, to Southwest Boulevard where you'll turn right and join the Townie Ride route.

Where's the start line?

It's just south of 15th and Galveston, on Riverside Drive, near the Townie registration table. All Townie riders will stage themselves facing north on Riverside behind the start banner with Tough Kids and their families in a group at the front.

Parking

There is ample parking all around the area between 15th and 18th, Boulder and Cheyenne. Park on the side streets or on some of the open parking lots.

Is there a map?

Yes, of course! You can view it below or click the link to view it in Google Maps.

The ride starts north on Riverside from the green bicycle and goes clockwise to Boulder, 18th, Cincinnati, 31st, Trenton, 33rd, Utica, 36th, back to Riverside, and north to the big Rider's Finish Tent near the start line.
